LEARN MOREBelievers are called to pray for the upcoming South African Municipal Elections in November 2026
LEARN MOREA Team of 7 believers from Gauteng visited Matlala to pray for the Pedi people and to encourage the local believers of what was once called Sekhukhuneland.
LEARN MOREA team of 10 believers travelled from Gauteng to visit the area of Matlala. Their visit coincided with the centenary celebrations of the establishing of the missionary station at Mathapisa in 1925.
LEARN MOREThe overall impression was one of awe and wonder what God had started here in the wilderness and finally brought deep into Africa through just a few Holy Spirit-inspired people from distant Europe.
LEARN MOREWe are raising up many small prayer teams to visit 17 towns on the weekend of 15-17 May 2026.
LEARN MOREA team of 4 young men committed to visit the Durban area to pray for the area and its people. The way God provided left no doubt that God wanted them to do this prayer outreach from 16-17 May 2026.
LEARN MOREPrayer does not represent the heart of God if it is fueled by motives of selfish gain. We easily pray for ourselves and the realities that directly influence us, but we are slow to pray for others and their benefit.
God has chosen prayer as the vehicle by which His purposes on earth would be established. Yet, His kingdom is much more than the limited realities we know or live in.
We see in Genesis 18 how God moves Abraham to pray for the cities in the valley that God’s judgment would not be poured out over them. We see the volatile spiritual battles that rage over urban communities, over the myriads of souls gathered together in cities and towns.
Around 60% of the world’s population already reside in cities. We see the suffering, the lostness and increase in wickedness as unsaved peoples congregate in metropolitan developments.
From Genesis to Revelation, God demonstrates His concern for cities. Cities are centres of influence where culture, commerce, education, government, and religion converge. Because cities influence entire regions, they often become strategic places in God’s plan.
When God sent Jonah to Nineveh, He revealed His compassion for an entire city (Jon 4:10-10). Although Nineveh was known for its wickedness, God desired repentance rather than destruction. Through the obedience of one reluctant prophet, an entire city humbled itself before God, and His mercy prevailed.
If God cares deeply about cities, His people should care as well.
Praise God, He raises up believers in every community to pray for and bring the gospel to the urban areas they inhabit. Yet, often the battle becomes long and local believers get tired and discouraged as they try to persevere to see people come to Christ. They experience opposition as the kingdom of darkness tries to maintain influence and control over communities.
Scripture teaches that believers are members of one body. Although we belong to different churches, denominations, towns, and cities, we are united in Christ. When one part of the body suffers, every part suffers. When one part rejoices, every part rejoices (1 Cor 12:26).
This means we cannot limit our prayers to our own locality. Spiritual health in another city ultimately blesses the entire nation. Revival in one community often spreads to neighbouring communities. Strong churches in distant cities contribute to the strengthening of the entire body of Christ.
Therefore, we believe that making ourselves available to go and pray in other towns and cities becomes a necessary ministry, to strengthen local believers and to help them in the spiritual battles that are being fought for their people and communities. In this way we show God’s love for our fellow believer, we speak into the redemption purposes of heaven for an area and we encourage the kingdom warriors as they contend for the fulfilment of God’s redemptive purposes daily.
We have seen how God often gives the visiting prayer team, words and Scriptures that confirm what God spoke to local intercessors or that become a weapon or key that helps praying believers in the next portion of their long-term commitment to bring their towns and cities more effectively to Jesus. UPF has been initiating these types of prayer outreaches for many years and we believe that in our obedience we have stumbled upon the very same type of ministry Paul had when he went from town to town to serve the kingdom processes in other places in Asia minor.
Interceding for other towns and cities enlarges our hearts. It teaches us to love people we have never met. It reminds us that God’s kingdom is much bigger than our personal circumstances.
As we pray for distant communities, our perspective changes. We begin to celebrate what God is doing elsewhere rather than viewing other ministries or cities as competitors. We become participants in God’s larger mission rather than spectators.
Prayer enlarges our vision until our hearts begin to reflect the heart of Christ.
Let us make ourselves available to serve the kingdom of Christ in this exiting way. God has never limited His concern to the places where we happen to live. His love reaches every village, town, city, and nation. As followers of Christ, we are called to share His heart.
As believers faithfully intercede for towns and cities across their nation, they become instruments through whom God prepares the way for revival, strengthens His Church, heals communities, and advances His kingdom.
Go ye therefore….
